In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the communications industry, along with journalism, I have also worked in academic, nonprofit and government communications. As a part of this, I have created many publications, including newsletters.
The new york times
As a multiplatform editing intern at The New York Times, I was based on the wire service. While I mainly worked editing shifts there, I was also trained on the Photo Service and in creating Times Digests. After working on several editions, I created one myself.
NONPROFIT & GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATIONS
At the Manhattan Borough President’s Office, I worked on speechwriting and publication design, as well as media relations. I created newsletters and helped to manage correspondence, databases, event planning and social media for the Washington Square Park Conservancy.
I regularly created newsletters, along with managing social media and working on book research with professors, for Notre Dame’s Department of American Studies. For the department, I completed an honors thesis on collective memory and 9/11. This included a case study on the East and West coasts, trips to three different national memorials and visits to several different research collections.
